You know which area of the home you are looking at having tiles installed, but there are so many sizes, shapes and materials of tiles to choose from...
Porcelain tiles are by far the most popular tile and for good reason too! Porcelain is a dense, highly durable material with an extremely low absorption rate (less than 0.5%)
Perfect for high traffic areas and wet areas.
Natural stone tiles such as granite, marble, slate, and limestone offer unparalleled longevity and unique aesthetics. Their primary features include high durability, natural thermal regulation, and hypoallergenic properties. However, because they are porous and heavy, they require specific installation, adhesives and periodic sealing to prevent staining.
Ceramic tiles are an affordable, highly customizable, and fire-resistant surfacing option perfect for low-traffic areas and walls. However, because they are made of softer clay, they are more prone to chipping and absorb more water than dense materials like porcelain, which means they can crack in freezing conditions.
Ideal for kitchen splash backs, and bathroom walls.
Next lets take a look at tile sizes and patterns...
Checkerboard
Herringbone
Kit Kat Mosaic
Scollop Tiles
Some smaller tiles and different patterns can be used as feature tiles alongside other larger main tiles in a bathroom for example or for a splash back in a kitchen or utility/laundry.
Whereas if they are used as the only tile of a large area or multiple walls it may be overbearing or make the space feel smaller than it is.
600x600
1200x1200
900x900
Larger tiles such as these sizes above make a great and modern main tile for large floor areas or bathrooms.
Grouts
Cement based grouts are the most popular and most cost effective choice of grout, with many colours available and is able to be used in wet areas.
The only downside is that it is a porous material and susceptible to water absorption, staining, and mold.
Epoxy grouts are becoming more popular due to the durability and waterproof nature of the product, it is a must for working kitchens and areas where hygiene is very important, but it is also becoming popular in domestic areas too because it is another layer of protection against leaks, stains and mould. Holding its colour for years to come too, its also the same colour wet as it is dry which means it will never look patchy whilst water on the surface is drying.
Finishing external corners
A very common choice for finishing edges where otherwise a cut edge of tile would be showing.
Available in many depths and colours and finishes, you will always be able to find a trim that suits your project.
This is our personal favourite, such a sleek and high end finish, this requires mitring the tile edges and mixing a resin to colour match your tile and applying it to the corners to create a seemless finish.
Whilst this is more time consuming and costly, It is the best looking finish to a tile edge on offer.
